PostSubject: help needed for shy dog   Fri Sep 18, 2009 10:57 am

Hi All,

I was hoping you could give me some advise, i have just aquired a new boy he is nearly 2 years he's a lovely dog (and i will post some pics shortly Very Happy ) but he seems quite shy. he will growl and try and hide behind me if a stranger tries to touch him he seems to be worse with men. I dont let him hide i ask him to sit and i move to the side i dont know if this is the right thing to do or not but it calms him down, im going to take him to training classes and try and socalize him, he's fine once he realises nothing bad will happen. i want to show him but need to sort this out first any tips for me to try at home will be greatfully received.

many thanks

Gina

is he shy or scared????

i ask coz if he is worse with men something may have happened before you got him??

i would continue with what you are doing if it is helping him,

i would also think about training classes but give him time to settle first, my dory was like this when we first got her, it took 6 months to get her completely sorted ( she had no manners at all and would growl at men i am convinced that a man had hurt her before she came here- yet she seems to love george and the man next door more than me lol!)

before you show him perhaps enter him nfc and see what he makes of it all

hi cheri

thank for the reply, i think he is just shy as it only last a few minutes then he's fine and didn't take him long to settle into my "pack".

if something has happened to him it must have just been recent as he has been shown in the past and done quite well Question Exclamation

i hope to start training on tues hopefully its just part of him settling in.

will try and post some pics tonight Smile

cheers

Gina and George xx
